Jimbo’s really packs them in
By Mike Bates
How do you get 94 dart players in a bar? Here’s how: you take a little neighborhood dumpy bar and you give it new life.
You totally remodel it; you clean it up, new bathrooms, carpet and just about everything is new. You throw lots of awesome flat screen TV’s all over the walls and you have some of the best bar food in town.
You are not done; you put in lots of dart boards and if you build it they will come! And they did, and they did, and they did.
Wow is all I can say. Players were coming out of the woodworks. Bob Frost came out after a 10 year hiatus, Brett Valentine made a rare appearance and lots of out-of-towners came from the steel tourney.
Whatamix, Whataburger, Whatatourney. Scooter had things rolling and it seemed like the time flew by. It was great to catch up with some of the players from Southern Cal and Tucson. It was nothing but fun.
And yes, we had two much fun. Randy Herbison is the best thing to come along in the dart community since Mike Bates (just kidding); he is a good guys who goes over and beyond the norm to make things a success.
I hate to say this, but a couple of Tucson boys took the top spot. Steve Hogan and Mark King took down Pat “omnipresent” Womack and Brian Mann to win the big money. Pat and Brian beat what I consider the best team – James Roberts and Mike Bates (kidding again, maybe). Taking down the fourth place spot was Mark Lance and Tom Burley.
It was a great time for all who came, and those who didn’t missed out on more fun than a barrel of monkeys. (Never understood how that could be fun… but you get the picture.) Thanks to Randy and the staff for the great time.
