My unexpected trip to the Desert Classic
By Kelli Wise
With Las Vegas coming up for Medalist World, I was pretty much sure that I wasn't going to Laughlin for the Desert Classic. So when Scott said I could play doubles with him, I said, “Of course I will go!”
We ended up in Level 1, which on paper appeared like we didn't have a chance. So Scott and I decided to set the tone and crack jokes from the first dart to the last, starting with my name. The boards were pre-programmed with Kenny's name, so I became Kenishaqua (not sure on the spelling) or Ken for short.
Amazingly enough, we ended up winning games and advanced to the next round. Though our next round experience was short-lived, we did end up with our very own prize of some really cool shirts, courtesy of Brian and Monte (some may say we stole them, but I would like to say we borrowed them until next year). They were really good sports so if you are in L.A. , stop by The Drawing Room Cocktail Lounge and say, “Hi.”
I had a great time cheering everyone on and watching the Masters' Singles tournament, which was an extraordinary display of darts and sportsmanship. I have never laughed so hard in a dart tournament and will note this as one of the best times I have had playing darts in a long time.
On a side note, I learned all about bass fishing. Well, not everything, but after some confusing moments on my part, I finally understood the basic concepts. So congrats to Skeet Reese, who happens to have the coolest name, for winning Angler of the Year.
