The final of all finals at Sixshooters
By Mike Bates
It had been a while since I had the chance to play a dart tournament at Six Shooters, so I was excited to get there early and watch the Indians pound the Yankees – and they did.
The usual money games were rolling and we had about 28 players show up. That was awesome because many of the tournaments at Sixshooters and around the Valley have been struggling, to say the least.
Some haven’t even been able to run them. We even got “Angry” Bob Christman to show after he was hiding out for a while. Even Scooter showed up to run it after weeks of the “Invisible Scooter Pie.”
So we had a great time, throwing darts watching the Indians pound the Yankees and sipping our beers. It was cool because with fourteen teams and lots of boards, we didn’t have to rush through the matches and play marathon darts. There were lots of guys and girls and others who came in during the night to hang out and later play some poker. Now to the finale of the story, which includes exclusive footage of the finals heard here first and only in this story.
It was the hot throwing Kix Alcala and his fateful sidekick “The Polish Pounder” Brad Halley on top of the winners. Coming out of the losers to challenge was the “Tipsy German”, Christian Riedel, and the “Throwin’ Samoan”, Mike Bates. That would be me, and I am not Samoan, but I like the nickname.
So was there a shot with the Mad German, who had carried the Samoan early, and who started to feel his oats, against Kix, who has been devastating over the last six months, and The Pounder, who had returned to form, if only for one night.
Yes it happened – a great match – six games, we won, they lost, end of story.
The Polish Pounder had nothing but great things to say about his opponents: “They brought it at us, we left everything on the board, it was exhausting, but beautiful; the best team won.”
