Ladies light up the night at Cheers

By Mike Bates

It was a 300% ladies tourney at Cheers, with 14 players battling for the October title. With the girls it seems more important who is there and how they look in the picture than who wins the tournament.
Julie Bates and Marie Franqui seemed destined to take the title when a rare dart injury forced the squad from the top of the winners to third place. It was a sad ending to an almost magical night for the pair.
What it did was open the door for the two other teams to wear the crown. It was Megan Gray and Carletta Flores (or whatever it is) facing off with Claudine Price and Kelli Wise. What a finish, what a burger. Check the pictures on page 7 to see who won.
In the Men’s tourney, my wingman Benny and I were once again denied the top prize, but did get third. We also broke our own record of drawing each other in our 21st tournament this year.
It was a tough road, with Bob Castillo and Dean Sitzler matching up against John Gray and JR Castillo. Bob and Dean won and all had a good night.
The beers were cold, everybody stayed clothed, and the only argument was how many grand slam breakfasts would Bobby crank down at Denny’s. Thanks to Ashley for the great service as always, and to the to meatheads who got lucky and beat Kix and I in money games.
See ya next month…
